Hand painted in Russia
Universally known, the technique of realization of the Gzhel porcelain in blue cobalt exists since the 14th century in a small village located at the south-west of Moscow.
Today six workshops in the area of Gzhel produce more than 2.500 different articles including various crockery, tea sets, coffee sets, vases, clocks, lamps, chimneys, toys folk and figurines. Each piece of porcelain is entirely hand painted and a great meticulousness is necessary to mould, finish, freeze and put to cook each part individually.
Some 1.200 potters, sculptors, and painters work today still in Gzhel and go down from generations of local craftsmen.
