The Art of Russian Lacqued Box was born at the 19th century and knew its apogee at the beginning of the 20th century, thanks to the exceptional quality of this production and the beauty of the parts carried out.
To reach this Mastery, the Russian artists had to carefully study and join together several techniques which they pushed on their higher level of perfection:
- technique of Maché Paper: It makes it possible to obtain any form by sticking thin layers of wooden sheets (a kind of kraft paper), which gives a very solid material, fine, light and allows to obtain these pretty boxes with rounded forms.
- Technique of the basic black lacquer, which requires the application of many coats of paint and an irreproachable polishing.
- gold painting and the techniques of decorative arabesques which give this sumptuous richness to the Russian Lacqued Boxes
- miniature technique, known since centuries, but which they improved and of which they adapted the decorative topics to satisfy the waitings of a very large audience.
