The small village of Jostovo, near of Moscow, gave its name to this Russian craft industry appeared at the 19th century.
These famous plates were initially manufactured in paper-chewed (same technique as the one used for creations of the famous enamelled boxes), then, later, out of metal.
You will never find two plates identical, because each artist works without never copying any model nor never to repeat itself.
The floral traditional decoration is usual with this kind of painting.
