About the Wood Painting of Khokhloma
With its red and black ornaments bottom gilded, the wood painting of Khokhloma appears to come from the "Loop of gold".
Nobody knows from where this happy expression comes which indicates the chain of the princely cities ranging between Moscow and the Volga.
It evokes a constelletion of capped gold churches "so that God remarks them more often", as Vladimir Vyssotski sang it (celebrates it Russian singer).
It is practised since the 17th century in Russia and owes its name to Khokhloma its origin village (area of Nijni Novgorod).
The quality of this manufacture, the luxury and the richness of decorations made it choosen by the Tsars of 18th and 19th centuries like ustensils impossible to circumvent to decorate the reception tables (mainly gold and black quality).
You can too find charming small pieces of furniture for children, functional, and especially many parts of crockery perfectly usable.
